I’ve managed to publish my first blog just in time for the end of the world! It’s all about the process of building a mod so you can go check it out or you can just sit there like a jackass. Happy apocalypse everybody!
So I’ve been in school for about six weeks now and the workload is just getting bigger and bigger. In fact, my workload is sooooo fat that when she jumped for joy she got stuck in the air. The reception to Person of Interest was more than I could have hoped for. There was some great compliments and some great criticism. We laughed, we cried, we had fun. I’m probably the only one who cried. Regardless, I’m still very fired up about producing more Half Life content but Hammer is a time sink (more like a time bath tub) and I’m struggling to find open space in my schedule. After all, Minecraft isn’t going to play itself.
Luckily there is an alternative. Portal 2 now has a built in custom map editor which allows users to quickly create, test and share Portal 2 test chambers. Therefore I’ve provided a link to my Steam Workshop where you can find my own set of Portal 2 test chambers. I’ll do my best to add new maps regularly, provided homework doesn’t eat my dog (or however the saying goes.)
Hey! What are you doing? Reading a post on my website? Well stop it! Stop it right now! What you should be doing is downloading and playing Black Mesa, which just came out a few days ago. Black Mesa is a complete fan-made overhaul of the original Half-Life. I’ve played it, and guess what? It’s so hard that it makes me want to kill myself. Aside from that, however, it’s one of the most phenomenal mods you’ll ever play. If you love Half-Life, then you’ve likely already stopped reading this and are already downloading. Well good for you. I suppose I’ll just keep sitting here talking to myself… hello…?
So I accidentally discovered that somebody has recorded a Let’s Play of Person of Interest! Who’d have thought? Darren Weekes goes through my Half Life 2 mod in about an hour and shares his thoughts about level design and mapping techniques. Darren had some great comments regarding the mod and has a fantastic YouTube Channel with tons of similar videos.
This is a big day for me. The Source SDK is a fickle mistress. The kind of mistress who will whisper sweet nothings in your ear right before spilling potato chip crumbs all over the mattress. And I think we all know how screwed you are when you have potato chip crumbs on the mattress.
The point is…
A little over one year ago I sat down with the Hammer Editor in Source SDK and decided I wanted to build a Half-Life mod. Today that goal has been met. Phillip Marlowe has graciously agreed to distribute my mod, Person of Interest, on his Half-Life fan site Planet Phillip so if you’re itching to get down and dirty with the Combine or some headcrabs then get over there and get downloading! It’ll cost you zero dollars! Because if it cost you any dollars, I’d be sued!
